50 lakh Jan Dhan Accounts closed

Till December 2017, 49.50 lakh Jan Dhan Accounts were closed, of which at least 50% of the accounts being in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan. Only 24.64 crore accounts are operational, out of 31 crore accounts across India, in which transactions were meade in the last 24 months. Jan Dhan Accounts were introduced by the Government to use it for direct benefit transfer schemes and providing accident and life insurance.
