India Now 6th Largest Solar PV Exporter

India has become the sixth-largest exporter of solar photovoltaic (PV) products, with the country’s share in global exports of these products increasing to 2.51% in 2023 from 0.4% in 2013. Outbound shipments of solar PV products rose to $1.83 billion in 2023 from $200.8 million in 2013, according to an official.

In April-October FY25, India exported $711.95 million worth of PV cells assembled in modules or made up into panels, with 96% of these shipments going to the US. During the same period, $25 million worth of photovoltaic cells not assembled in modules or made up into panels were exported, with 90% of these shipments also going to the US.

“India’s solar PV exports have witnessed a remarkable increase. This represents a substantial growth of over eightfold and a significant rise in India’s prominence as a solar PV exporter,” the official said, attributing the growth to increasing global demand and domestic policy initiatives promoting solar energy.
