Fin Min proposes to make PAN and Aadhaar interchangeable
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has proposed to make PAN card and Aadhaar interchangeable, allowing those who do not have a PAN to file income tax returns. She also said that the proposal will come into effect from September 1.
While presenting the first budget of the Modi government in its second term, Finance Minister stated that Aadhaar crad will be issued to NRIs after their arrival in India, without the mandatory wait for180 days.
“More than 120 crore Indian now have Aadhaar. Therefore, for ease and convenience of taxpayers, I propose to make PAN and Aadhaar interchangeable and allow those who do not have PAN to file Income Tax returns by simply quoting their Aadhaar number and also use it wherever they are required to quote PAN,” said Sitharaman, while delivering her maiden budget.
