United Bank of India becomes the first Bank from the Eastern Region to launch VISA contactless NFC Debit Card
United Bank of India, a leading Public Sector Bank in India, strengthens its foothold in contactless technology with the launch of contactless Debit Card on the VISA payWave platform on 11th October 2018. The Bank has already launched the contactless ‘NFC’ technology Debit Card on the Mastercard platform.
In an event at Banks head office, the card was unveiled by Sri Ashok Kumar Pradhan, MD & CEO, United Bank of India Sri Sanjay Kumar, Sri Ajit Kumar Das, Executive Directors United Bank of India, Sri Daljit Singh, Senior Director VISA, Ms Vineeta Agarwal, Director VISA in the presence of senior Bank officials.
Launching the card, Shri Ashok Kumar Pradhan, Managing Director & CEO said that the Bank’s focus has been to utilize the latest technology and innovations like the NFC technology for customer convenience and safety. This has given the Bank a competitive advantage and the Bank will be leading the way towards greater adoption of this technology.
Sri Sanjay Kumar, Executive Director reiterated the need to have all available Digital Channel products in the Bank to meet the demands of the customers. Sri Kumar emphasized that meeting the expectation of the customers is the prime objective of the Bank and the customers of the Bank will be served with the latest digital products for all of their Banking requirements.
Sri Ajit Kumar Das, Executive Director, said that technology driven products gives an ease of operation and reduces the overall transaction time and serves as the prime attraction for retention and addition of young people in the Bank’s clientele.
In his welcome address, Sri Gauri Prasad Sarma, General Manager – IT & ADC informed that Contactless NFC cards comes with added convenience of tap and go feature for small ticket size transactions up to Rs 2000 and thus reduces the risk of customers’ PIN getting compromised at merchant locations.
Sri Daljit Singh, Senior Director VISA appreciated the efforts of the Bank and informed that maximum number of contactless card based transactions in the country are being originated from Kolkata which indicates the higher level of readiness from merchant end and awareness from customer end to use this cutting edge technology based product.
