United Bank of India launches contactless NFC “MasterCard” Debit Card
United Bank of India, a leading Public Sector Bank in India, has launched MasterCard Debit Card with cutting edge contactless “NFC” technology with an objective to include a popular digital product in its kitty of technology services. With this, the Bank becomes one of the first few banks in the country to launch contactless Debit Cards, especially on MasterCard. This is the first contactless card offering from any of the Banks headquartered at Kolkata.
In an event at Banks head office, the card was unveiled by Sri Ashok Kumar Pradhan, Executive Director, United Bank of India and Anubhav Gupta, Vice President, MasterCard South Asia in presence of senior Bank officials and dignitaries from MasterCard.
It was the passionate desire of the Bank towards technological excellence that has driven the launch of the product to serve its existing as well as potential customers. This vision shall go a long way in fulfilling the desire of the long standing loyal customers of the Bank to possess a contactless Debit Card. Customer Service and bonding with the customers will increase with this initiative to create Customer Delight which is much sought in all circumstances with special thrust on present Digitization drive by the Government.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri Ashok Kumar Pradhan, Executive Director emphasized that the young and new generation customers whose inclination is towards ease of operations are always on the lookout for new initiatives. Technology driven products serve as the prime attraction for requisition and retention of such young people in the Bank’s clientele.
Emphasizing on the convenience and ease of use of contactless cards and , he said that this product has the potential to attract elderly customers as well who usually perceive pin based digital products as complicated.
Speaking on the occasion, General Manager IT, Sri Gauri Prasad Sarma informed that contactless NFC cards comes with added convenience of tap and go feature for small ticket size transactions where the customer is not required to enter PIN for NFC enabled terminal for transactions up to Rs 2000. This may help the customers PIN getting compromised at merchant locations.
He also said that United Bank of India has always been a pioneer in introducing digital products and meeting the customer expectations. He assured that the customers of the Bank will be served with the latest digital products so that they do not have to look beyond United Bank of India for their Banking requirements. He also informed that the Bank is in process of bringing this contactless technology to other networks of cards namely VISA and RuPay.
